Cheetah is a live and well and living in....

Chinpanzees are more closely related to humans than they are gorillas. As pets, research animals and performers, they have a working life span of approximately 6 years - - but they live close to a human's lifespan once in captivity. So what happens to them for the rest of their lives?

Driving home from work I heard about this from my favorite NPR program.

What is Chimp Haven?
Chimp Haven is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a permanent retirement sanctuary for chimpanzees no longer used for medical research, entertainment, or as pets.

Chimp Haven

On NPR today I heard about this place and found out that Cheetah - from the old Tarzan movies - is still alive, 75+ years old, and living in a similar facility although a lot more human-like than this one is. The "interviewer" met Cheetah on his patio, sitting at a picnic table where he was eating Doritos and sipping on a low sugar (he is a diabetic) soda.
